Nicole Richie features in Darling Magazine

Written by admin on October 04 2016

Back in May, I made a post stating that Nicole Richie will be featured in the fall issue of Darling Magazine! It is now available for purchase on their website for $20 – click here. Unfortunately, international shipping is really expensive – for example, postage to the UK costs $22.

Nicole Richie is many things: Creative Director of House of Harlow 1960, entrepreneur, philanthropist, writer and actress, but that’s barely the beginning of who she is. She rises well before the sun, and spends her days running her own businesses and raising two kids…all with abundant energy and somehow a great deal of poise. When we heard that not only does she do all of this, but also has more recently begun a collaborative event called Pearl xChange, focused on connecting and encouraging women, we were intrigued to find out more about the woman behind the name… Check out the full article in the latest issue of Darling Magazine.

Jamie Schneider, who was the stylist for the photoshoot, shared a sneak peak on Instagram.

Daughter Harlow has witnessed the ups and downs of Nicole Richie’s career

Written by admin on September 29 2016

Nicole Richie recently spoke on the ‘Breaking the Mold’ panel during Advertising Week. She shared advice on how it’s important for her children to see her fail sometimes.

Fortune.com said the following:

“It’s really important for them to go through the journey with you.”

The tendency for mothers is to protect their children from, well, everything. Yet the one thing you shouldn’t shield them from is failure, says reality TV star turned entrepreneur Nicole Richie.

Speaking at a panel at New York Advertising Week, the mother of two described how her daughter has witnessed the ups and downs of her career, which has included stints in television, fashion, writing, and philanthropy.

“She’s seen me go to auditions and not get the part. She’s seen me design a collection [for my fashion brand House of Harlow 1960], and have 25% of it disappear,” the Candidly Nicole star said of her daughter. “It’s really important for them to go through the journey with you.”

Nicole Richie talks to Los Angeles Times about her collection with Revolve

Written by admin on September 18 2016

Nicole Richie was asking an assistant if she had time to duck out of the Revolve Social Club on Melrose Avenue, where she had just wrapped an August photo shoot, to visit her daughter, Harlow, and son, Sparrow.

Richie was waiting for her next meeting when she realized she might have 10 minutes to spare to see her son and daughter and give them a quick cuddle.

“It’s about finding pockets of time where I can be with my family,” said Richie, who has evolved from a former reality show star into a successful fashion designer with her brand, House of Harlow 1960. “Right now, my schedule is all over the place.”

That week alone, Richie was dipping her toes back into the world of entertainment. She has a role as the co-host of a cable-news show in the Tina Fey-produced comedy “Great News,” which is set to premiere on NBC in 2017.

Otherwise, much of her time has been taken up by her new collaboration with popular Los Angeles-based fashion retailer and manufacturer Revolve. Richie has created a capsule ready-to-wear collection of a few dozen pieces under her House of Harlow label for the retailer.

The collaboration with Revolve happened organically. The retailer sells Richie’s jewelry line, she shops the site for her own wardrobe, and “we decided to talk about where I was going as a designer,” she said.

“I went downtown, saw their factory and immediately knew they were somebody I wanted to be in business with in a much bigger way,” Richie said. “They’re just cool, innovative thinkers.”

On this midweek summer afternoon, Richie was wearing a pair of slender vintage 501s and a cream sweater she had pulled off a hanger on a rack at Revolve, a members-only fashion lounge and private boutique.

She has the charisma and affability of her father, singer Lionel Richie, whom she lovingly said, “Cries every time I’m with him” about her accomplishments. “I tell him, ‘Dad, I’m going to be 35. Let’s take it down a notch.’ But he’s very proud.” (Richie’s birthday is Sept. 21.)

Richie’s first collection for Revolve bowed in June, replete with colors such as blush and pale blue and fabrics including delicate linens. Each collection includes about 15 to 20 styles, which range from about $90 for tops and bodysuits to $400 for an embellished jacket.

Looks for the capsule collection are updated frequently, with current style offerings including silky midnight blue separates, lacy jackets and paisley-print burnt orange maxi dresses.

Raissa Gerona, Revolve’s vice president of brand marketing and strategic partnerships, said, “Nicole’s style and aesthetic are so consistent and true to her and her lifestyle.”

She added that recent top sellers from the line include a scoop-necked Wren tank bodysuits and the fluid Charlie wide-leg pant.

“I’m such a part of the everyday process,” Richie said. “I’m down at the factory all the time. Being able to relate directly to the consumer gives me an opportunity to tell my story. I live and breathe it. I wouldn’t spend my time doing it if I couldn’t be 100% there.”

It is not lost on Richie that she had advantages that most young designers starting out don’t. She launched a jewelry collection nine years ago and expanded into ready-to-wear 18 months later.

By then, she was already famous, not only as the daughter of a music legend, but also having just come off the hit reality show “The Simple Life” with costar Paris Hilton.

Richie had options for her future. Doors were opened for her. Still, she found herself reconnecting with an old paramour from her childhood: fashion.

“I was born in 1981, and by the time I was 4,” Richie said, “I was sitting in my mom’s dressing room watching her get her hair and makeup done and going everywhere with my dad — the Grammys, the [American Music Awards]. She loved [Azzedine] Alaïa and Chanel.”

After Richie started competitive figure-skating as a child, she had a fashion awakening. She watched Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan skim over the ice wearing a Vera Wang black-and-white dress, and Richie was hooked.

“It had a white panel and sheer black sleeves,” Richie recalled. “I loved that dress.”

That moment inspired her to start designing her own figure-skating costumes. “That was my first introduction to the design world as a whole,” Richie said. “I realized it was about having a vision, and then making it come to life.”

Nicole Richie: “I feel the most like myself when I don’t have any make-up on”

Written by admin on September 06 2016

Nicole Richie spoke to PeopleStyle for their 5 Questions video series. She shared her reasons for not really wearing make-up, thus unintentionally joining Alicia Keys’ “Make-up Free Movement.”

“I stay away from makeup because it clogs my skin. I know people [who] are so comfortable in makeup and they feel alive and that is what they love to do,” she continues. “So I wouldn’t say that I am against it because I know people that really get joy and feel the most like themselves when they put on makeup. I feel the most like myself when I don’t have any on and so that’s the road that I go down.”

“That’s probably the one rule that I do,” she adds, while chatting off-screen. “Some people love to wear makeup and that’s their thing. They like it. They’re comfortable in it. It’s not something that I would do. I like having a bare face. That’s me.”

Nicole also shared her tips on how to dress when you’re only 5’1.

“I’m 5-ft-1-in., so I can’t just go and wear some miniskirt,” she tells PeopleStyle. “That would look a lot better on someone 5-ft-9-in. I have to work with my body, and I like to be comfortable. My go-to look is loose pants and a tank top. I’m really into bodysuits. If I am at home, it’s sweats. I like to be supercozy.”

Her favourite suggestions are:

Flowy Dresses
“I just love them,” she says. “I love them for summer. I don’t like to feel like I’m wearing anything. It’s easy just to throw on.”

Wide-Leg Trousers
“I like things loose all the time,” she says. “I don’t like a lot of things touching my skin. While I do love jeans, I don’t like to be constricted all the time so that’s why I wear a lot of loose pants.”

A Little Skin
“A sliver is appropriate sometimes,” she says. “I don’t do it all the time. It’s just about knowing your audience and do it when it’s appropriate, like a party. What’s not appropriate for me is that I am running around all day so I wouldn’t be wearing something like that — and I am 34, so I wouldn’t be doing that. [More skin] would look so cute on a 20-year-old all day. But that’s just not my life.”

Jumpsuits
“I love to wear [a jumpsuit] while running around with the kids,” she says.
