Tooheys New Golden Slipper Day is one of Australia’s most celebrated sporting events of the year and the biggest race day held at Rosehill Gardens – a day with style, speed and passion in abundance!
This year is guaranteed to be the biggest yet with international ambassador and style icon, Nicole Richie, trackside to help celebrate the New Breed of racing on and off the track. To celebrate Sydney Social 101 chatted to Nicole about her involvement and for her fashion advice:
What does it mean to you to be the first international ambassador for the Australian Turf Club?
It is such an honor to be asked to come to Sydney for such an iconic sporting and social event. The Tooheys New Golden Slipper Day is Sydney’s biggest race day and I look forward to seeing everyone trackside.
Do you have any tips or favourites for the Tooheys New Golden Slipper?
I’ve been told to follow trainer Gai Waterhouse – I recently spoke with her daughter Kate, so she may have just snuck in some tips…
Who are your favourite Australian designers for race wear?
Toni Maticevski and Kym Ellery
Who are your favourite International designers for race wear?
Balmain
What are your do’s and don’ts for a day at the races?
Wear a comfy heel – it’s a long day!
Have fun with your look – add a splash of color, a fun hat or a great piece of jewelry (House of Harlow of course!)
What are the perfect heels to wear for a long day at the races?
I would be wearing a heel size that you can manage – nothing is worse than seeing people struggle in their shoes at the end of a long day
How do you feel that House of Harlow1960 works on the race track?
HOH celebrates individuality and I see a lot of that here. It’s about taking each piece and making your own individual fashion statement.
What fashions should we be looking out for during Autumn/Winter?
Grey tones are big this season – as are mid to full length hemlines. And for millinery I’m loving tones of burgundy red and berry
What are your tips to keeping make up looking fresh for a day at the track?
Keep it light and fresh. The sun is very strong in Australia so I would try and keep my face protected with a hat….a fashionable one of course!
Tell us about your day at the races? What are you most looking forward too?
I’m really looking forward to the whole day – but I definitely can’t wait to judge MYER Fashions on the Field – I’m excited to see what everyone’s interpretations are of Autumn Winter Racing fashion.
The stellar racing program is complemented by the Myer Fashions on the Field men’s and women’s best dressed racewear competition with huge prizes up for grabs, the Emeri Pamper Lounge offering free makeup touch-ups, live music and trackside entertainment, making this an event not to be missed. After popular demand, the Nova 96.9 Garden Party is also back this year along with a number of other exciting new hospitality options including the New Breed Bar.
