Nicole Richie – JustJared.com Exclusive Interview
JJ: What are you expecting from the second season of Fashion Star?
NR: Well the level of talents from the designers is just so amazing, it was so inspiring to really get to work with these designers.
JJ: Are we going to have the same buyers this season?
NR: Express came in to replace H&M. Saks and Macy’s are still there. We have a new host Louise Roe. There are going to be a few different changes. The layout’s different, visually it’s going to be a little bit different. As far as mentoring, John, Jessica, and I all kinda felt that we wanted to work with the designers more and we were feeling a little spread thin working with all 14 designers. So we have now split them up into groups so I got my group that I’m working with and the same goes for John and Jessica.
JJ: Is the mentoring like the X Factor?
NR: I haven’t seen X Factor. Its kinda like The Voice. Kind of but We’re not competitive with each other because there have been times where I will go to them [John & Jessica] and need their help. It’s actually more just so we can spend more time with them.
JJ: How does it feel to help mentor someone like Kara Laricks to win the show?
NR: It was definitely great. It was so nice just to see her whole process and to watch her whole journey. She’s a very talented designer.
JJ: Can you talk about your Suave collaboration?
NR: It’s my second year partnering up with them and we decided to launch the Suave Shine Suite. Basically what that is, it’s an online destination where you get all access to everything back stage so the hair, the makeup, it all counts when you are doing this presentation, when you are doing this fashion show. That’s kinda what I tell my designers. Fashion is from head to toe. It’s not just about the dress, it’s about the whole look. This is gonna take you behind the scenes in creating those special looks or really any looks you know. You are gonna get tips from top hairstyles, how-to’s, and a lot of info. You are gonna get interviews from me, from John, from Jess, and you can win prizes as well. The grand prize is $100,000.
JJ: How are the products different from those in stores?
NR: Well what I think what Suave is really great at is getting the salon quality product and making it accessible to everybody and that’s why I’ve been such a big fan of theirs and why i wanted to partner up with them yet again. For me, I have frizzy hair, so I like to use one product. I don’t like to go and play around with a ton of different things during the day. I like the Moroccan Infusion Styling oil. It’s perfect for me. It’s easy and I can carry around in my purse with me. I just do that and I don’t have to worry about my hair for the rest of the day.
JJ: Since you used Suave for the Golden Globes, are you going to try to use Suave for all your red carpet events now?
NR: Yea, they are great. They have really got it down!
JJ: Are you using these products on your daughter Harlow?
NR: No, she’s too young. No product yet!
