Lionel Richie spoke to Hello magazine regarding the rumours that Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are breaking up. He stated that it is “completely untrue.” Read the full article below.
Rumours have been swirling for months that Nicole Richie was splitting from husband Joel Madden – but now her dad, legendary singer Lionel Richie, has set the record straight. “It’s completely untrue,” Lionel tells HELLO! Magazine in the latest issue.
Speculation of a breakup came after movers were spotted at the couple’s home in the Hollywood Hills. “They’ve bought a new house and the moving van was pulling up at their old house to move to the new one,” explained Lionel.
“Hence the story they are breaking up.”
Nicole, 33, and Joel, 36, met in 2006, and married at Lionel’s Bel Air mansion in 2010. They now have two children together, Harlow, 7, and Sparrow, 5, and life in their household has never been happier, according to Lionel.
“I went over to the new place recently and there were the Pup-Pups – otherwise known as my grandchildren – running around all excited showing me their new yard and their new pool,” he said.
But, the father-daughter-duo did discuss the breakup talk during their visit. He recalls: “‘Aren’t you going to clear [the rumours] up?’ I asked Nicole. ‘Nah, it’s okay,’ she said.”
The pair may not be speaking out against the rumours, but they were recently seen walking hand-in-hand to a U2 concert held in Los Angeles, and in 2014, Nicole opened up on adding more children to their family: “If it happens, it happens,” she told Sirius radio.
“Of course, I’ll be so excited, but I’m not necessarily planning. I’m so happy with what I have and I had more of course I’d be so happy. But right now, I’m good.”
“She’s a seasoned Richie,” Lionel continued, given ahead of his June 25 performance at London’s prestigious Butterfly Ball event held by charity Caudwell Children, which supports disabled children and their families.
“But, as I said to Nicole, ‘Rumour you don’t worry about. It’s when they print something and it’s true you need to worry.'”
On Wednesday, June 3rd, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden attended a U2 concert held at The Forum in Inglewood, Los Angeles. There were many other celebrities in attendance such as Charlize Theron, Aaron Paul and Naomi Campbell.

Variety.com have acquired the low-down on Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s newly purchased house in the Beverly Crest area of Los Angeles. The house appears to sit in a “star-studded pocket” of Beverly Hills, which includes the likes of Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden just up the street from them!

SIZE: 5,515 square feetYOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A late-night covert communiqué from real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak informs us that showbiz scion, fashion entrepreneur and reality television denizen Nicole Richie and much-tatted musician Joel Madden have surreptitiously upgraded their residential circumstances with the off-market acquisition of a new residence in a swank, privately patrolled Beverly Hills enclave that property records show traded hands late last month for $6.7 million. (Fun Fact: throughout much of the 1990s, the property was owned by Jack Nicholson.)
The deal went down on the down low, hence Your Mama didn’t turn up any digital listings that would confirm some of the specifics of the property. Suffice to say, then, that the L.A. County Tax Man’s records (and other online resources) show the angled abode was originally built in the late 1950s, sits on an irregularly shaped 0.57-acre parcel and measures in at 5,515 square feet with four bedrooms, four bathrooms and three fireplaces plus an attached two-car garage, a backyard swimming pool and a sport court.
The Richie-Maddens’ new house sits in an especially star-studded pocket of the Beverly Hills Post Office where some of the other high-profile homeowners in the ‘hood include Ziggy Marley; Guy Oseary; Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban; Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis — they snatched up their place last year in an off-market deal for a tetch over 10 million from entertainment industry mover and shaker Tom Freston; Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem — they paid $3.3 million for the former home of erstwhile couple Sara Gilbert and Allison Adler; and Jennifer Lawrence — whose home was previously owned by Jessica Simpson, Ellen DeGeneres and Paul Hogan. As avid and well-schooled celebrity real estate watchers already know, just down the street a bit from the Richie-Maddens new digs is the compound-like estate Cameron Diaz bought a few years ago from Candice Bergen, where she and Benji Madden — Joel’s twin brother — hitched their romantic and legal wagons a few months ago in front of a slew of other Hollywood hot shots like Jeffrey Katzenberg, Judd Apatow, Toni Colette and Nancy Juvonen.
Last year, in June 2014, the couple dumped Mister Madden’s former bachelor pad — a gated, 1930s Spanish Colonial in Glendale — for $1,837,000 and, as far as we can tell, they continue to own the 5,380-square-foot house in L.A.’s fabled Laurel Canyon that they bought in May 2009 for $1.912 million.
It is Mother’s Day in America so I would like to take this opportunity to wish Nicole Richie a Happy Mother’s Day. Joel Madden also shared this lovely post on his Instagram page wishing Nicole the same. His recent posts seem to have definitely crushed all recent rumours of their divorce.

New candids of Nicole Richie from the past few days as well as some from February that were missed were added to the gallery. On May 5th, Nicole was spotted with Harlow and on May 7th, Joel and Nicole were out shopping for furniture. It was reported last month that they had recently bought a new home in the Beverly Crest area.
