Burning Love: Nicole Richie On Her Candle Obsession (And New Home Fragrance Line)

Written by admin on November 25 2014

Stephen Milioti of Gilt.com interviewed Nicole Richie on her candle obsession and new home fragrance line. Check it out below:

giltinterview

Your empire is expanding fast — how did you decide to move into fragrance? Are there other categories you’re interested in pursuing? Stepping into the world of home has been a passion of mine since the day I started this brand. I designed my home. Candles set the tone of a home; they warm up a room and fill the room with a mood.

Tell us about the process of developing fragrances. Where did you begin? Did you have specific scent references you brought to the team? Developing a fragrance is very personal. I had to go back to the root of House of Harlow and what it stands for. House of Harlow celebrates individuality. It is a world of no rules, of dreams, and music. I wanted each scent to send you to the place of feeling free. Like Baby when she finally did the lift in Dirty Dancing.

What are some of your favorite scent memories? My mother has been pairing and mixing oils, options, and perfumes since I was a little girl. I always remember the way she smelled.

Are you big on using candles to set specific moods? How do you use them in your home? My home has candles in every room, and I burn them every day. Candles give the room movement and warmth.

Candles are such a go-to gift…do you plan to give your House of Harlow ones this season? DUH! Nothing screams “Im thinking of you” like a gift with my name on it.

What is the best holiday gift you’ve ever gotten? given? I still use a real camera. I love a tangible photo. My husband got me a photo printer last year and I love it.

What’s on your holiday wish list this year? I’m in a minimal head space right now. I’m focused on appreciating all that I have. That being said, I wouldn’t return a diamond … HOT DAMN!

What are your favorite family holiday traditions? How do you welcome the season? We go big for the holidays. We start decorating the house on October 1st for Halloween, and it’s nonstop for the rest of the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas are big for us; we do every tradition you could think of.

Your personal style has really evolved…how would you define it these days? It’s hard for me to define my style because I am me. My experience is that I have been playing with different looks since I was a little girl. I went through a Punky Brewster stage, a grunge stage, but this is the fun part about fashion. You don’t have to make rules for yourself. Your point of view changes, and your eye changes. You can appreciate things you didn’t in the past. From colors to construction, fashion is a constant evolution, and if used the right way, can be your biggest tool in helping you express yourself.

Has motherhood changed your approach to fashion? Has designing? I’ve always been led by comfort, so that has not changed. I still love to experiment, and probably always will.

Who What Wear: Inside Look At House Of Harlow 1960 Fall Campaign

Written by admin on October 17 2014

Jessica Baker of WhoWhatWear.com got an exclusive inside look at Nicole Richie’s campaign work for her upcoming Fall 2014 Collection of her ever-growing, popular jewellery line House of Harlow 1960. Jenna Peffley also got some amazing photos! Check everything out below, or better yet view it at WWW here.

It’s not every day we walk onto the set of a campaign shoot greeted by two adorable owls—named Owlette and Owltoid—and a dream-worthy spread of necklaces, bracelets, and rings. But then again, House of Harlow 1960 isn’t your average jewelry brand. Designed by the supremely stylish Nicole Richie, House of Harlow 1960 features an exciting range of mixed-media baubles, and its latest collection is full of attention-grabbing pieces. We went behind the scenes of the brand’s latest Los Angeles shoot to give you a first look at what’s to come, so keep reading to see all the photos and our exclusive interview with Richie.

What are you most excited about fashion-wise for the upcoming season?

Fall is my favorite season to dress for, because it means layering and gives me an opportunity to play with different constructions and textures. I love breaking out my summer pieces and wearing them over winter pieces, like taking a turtleneck and wearing a summer dress over it. The world is kind of your oyster when it comes to how you’re going to style your clothes.

Is there a trend you really love for fall?

I encourage my customers not to focus on trends and really just wear what makes them feel comfortable, because what you are confident in is what you’re going to look best in. There is no point in dressing like everyone else in order to try and be the best version of you. To me, the people that look the coolest are the people most confident in what they are wearing.

What is the inspiration behind the collections you’re shooting today?

House of Harlow 1960 has always experimented with bringing in different fabrics. We like to keep things really intricate and really eclectic. This was the first time we brought in crystals and mixed metals and really just focused on the small details of the collection. House of Harlow is normally a collection known for its bigger pieces, but we are now introducing smaller, more delicate pieces. It’s all meant to be layered and mixed in with other pieces from your wardrobe.

What’s your favorite piece from the new collection?

The I.D. necklace is my favorite and I’ve been wearing it all summer. It’s not even out yet, but I’ve been wearing it for like three months.

Do you have any rules for accessorizing?

I don’t believe less is more. I think you can wear as much as you want. I love mixing metals, like silver and gold, and different fabrics. I like it to feel like it has a lot of dimension.

What do you love most about designing your collections season after season?

I feel like with jewelry you really have this freedom. It’s not like ready-to-wear, where you have to fall within certain guidelines. Jewelry is an area for you to fully express yourself. Even people who don’t really want to take that risk when they are wearing clothes can do it with jewelry. My favorite part is looking at different pieces when I travel. I am on the road with my husband all the time and always finding the closest flea market or kiosk. I don’t sit down and design for one season, I just constantly go.

If we could peek inside your bag, what would we find?

I’m a Virgo, so I am very organized. I have a little bag that contains a small-sized hand lotion, essential oils, smelling oils, a little face spray, some lavender hand sanitizer, and some bobby pins, all in a little freshening up kit. I also have my phone, camera, brush, and two or three pairs of sunglasses.

Harper’s Bazaar + Piperlime “25 Days of Chic”

Written by admin on September 15 2014

Yesterday I posted about how Nicole Richie teamed up with Piperlime to pick out her favourite fall fashion items as part of their “25 Days of Chic” programme. In collaboration with Piperlime is Harper’s Bazaar Magazine who have displayed the rest of this gorgeous photoshoot with Nicole, as well as a longer interview and behind the scenes video.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Electric, colourful, comfortable.

Let’s talk fashion, what are you buying to update your look this season?

I love the midi length skirt – it’s so versatile. You can pair it with a button down for a feminine look or a crop top for something a bit edgier.

What’s the on piece for fall that you can’t live without?

Oversized sweaters.

What was your first fashion memory?

Watching my mum getting ready. She was back then and still is my fashion inspiration.

What’s one of your personal styling tricks?

I love to layer my looks – it really helps take my outfit fro ma working day to what can often be an unexpected night. Also, black ankle booties are a no-brainer and go with everything.

What’s your go-to outfit on any given weekday?

A simple knit dress and pair of flats.

What is your wardrobe MVP?

House of Harlow 1960 aviators.

Who are the style icons you look to for fashion inspiration?

My mum and Bianca Jagger.

Have you ever worn anything that you later regretted?

Looking back there are a few looks that I didn’t love, but fashion is about expressing yourself, so I wouldn’t take anything back.

You can now shop Nicole Richie’s fall favourites and must-haves on Piperlime.com.

CBS News Interview Nicole Richie

Written by admin on September 14 2014

CBS News recently interviewed Nicole Richie. See what she has to say on fall staples, style, her new QVC line and more.

cbsint

CBS News: How did you come to work on this collection for QVC?

Nicole Richie: I’ve been collaborating and selling my designs at QVC for a few seasons now, it’s been a great collaboration and I’m really proud of the collection we’ve built together.

Where did you find inspiration for the designs?

I find inspiration in my everyday life, music and travels.

Is there a certain type of woman you envision wearing these clothes?

I always keep the everyday woman in mind when designing this collection. I like pieces that are versatile and can work for different body types & styles. I always have key pieces in my closet that can easily transition from day to night, whether I’m in mum-mode or going to work meetings.

How does this collection differ from others you’ve worked on in the past?

We have a faux fur piece in this collection, which is definitely a new direction. We’re always trying to keep the collection fresh while still staying true to the line.

cbsint2

What trends do you see being big for fall?

I don’t follow trends, I think they can be limiting as far as developing your own personal style. That said, a great leather jacket and oversized sweaters are fall staples for me.

Do you have a favourite outfit or item in your closet?

I have a black knit dress that is in rotation all year.

Candidly Nicole” just finished its first season on VH1 — have you been pleased by the reception it’s gotten?

It’s really been so amazing, I’m really proud of the show and excited that we got picked up for a second season.

What’s next for you? What other projects are you working on?

I’m currently shooting season 2 of my Web series and will soon start shooting season 2 of the Vh1 series.

You’ve experimented with so many different hair colours and looks over the years — is there anything you wouldn’t try?

I’m always game to try anything!
