Nicole Richie talks to WWD about Fashion and ‘Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead’

Written by admin on April 13 2024

Nicole Richie recently spoke to WWD about “’90s Fashion, Power Dressing and Her ‘Energetic’ Wardrobe” in ‘Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.’ Read the full interview below or click here to read it on their website.

Nicole Richie is bringing power dressing to the big screen. In “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead,” scheduled to debut in theaters on Friday, she plays Rose, a businesswoman fighting to keep her employees motivated. And she does that with a little help from her wardrobe.

Rose feels the pressure to keep the energy of her business going even though the energy has kind of come to a stagnant place. And I think for Rose it’s very important for her to wear bright colors,” Richie told WWD.

Throughout the movie, Rose is seen in vibrant power suits in primary colors while wearing different hairstyles. “I think that is something she is doing to keep her employees’ energy up, as well. For her, especially, her costumes are really a form of keeping that energy alive,” said Richie, who “had a hand” in Rose’s costumes, selecting a somber head-to-toe Tom Ford look for one of her final scenes.

Richie knows how fashion can contribute to one’s career. Alongside Paris Hilton, she fostered some of the biggest style trends during the early naughties while starring in E!’s “The Simple Life.” The reality show crowned them as fashion influencers of the time.

However, Richie is not reminiscing about 2000s fashion. “I mean, I don’t even know what the 2000s are. They just feel nuts. It’s like neon and color. I think it’s just everything thrown at the wall,” she said, adding that the 1990s were more a match to her personal taste.

“I’ve always loved slip dresses, flats and a little cardigan. I really love how the ’90s just felt very raw and very simple, kind of like, ‘Who cares? We’re just like in our bodies and we’re going to do whatever we want,’ and that’s just something that I’ve always been drawn to, so I love ’90s fashion.”

Like her new character in “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead,” Richie is a businesswoman. In 2008, she launched her jewelry line House of Harlow 1960, which two years later extended to include apparel and footwear. Even though her style is different from Rose’s, she wouldn’t change a thing in her character’s wardrobe. “Oh, I would just say slay queen. You are killing it!” she said.

“Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead,” produced by BET+’s Original Films, is a remake of the 1991 namesake classic and also features June Squibb, Simone Joy Jones and more.

Nicole Richie speaks to MovieFone about Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead

Written by admin on April 11 2024

Nicole Richie and co-star Simone Joy Jones recently spoke to MovieFone about their upcoming film, ‘Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead,’ which will be released in US cinemas on April 12th. You can read the interview below or on their website here. The website also provided two new stills from the film which were added to the gallery.

Moviefone: To begin with, Simone, what was your first reaction to the screenplay and the idea of making a remake of the 90’s comedy?
Simone Joy Jones: First impression was, “Oh my God, I can’t believe I’m belly laughing reading the script.” There’s a lot of times you’re like, “Oh, that’s going to be funny once that person’s there. That’s going to be funny once it’s all happening.” I was like, “No, it was funny off the page.” Which I was like, “Okay, amazing.” With this specific remake, I was just so excited about Wade’s Vision. He came with all the fabric of how the film was going to be made, and I was like, “I’m on board.”

MF: Nicole, were you a fan of the original and what does it mean to you personally to be in this remake?
Nicole Richie: I am a diehard fan. I’ve seen this movie no less than 1,000 times. I could tell you everything about it. So, when we shot at the original house, I was walking through just so excited. We’ve got some very special cameos from the original version there, and it felt like I was at Universal Studios. I was like, “I cannot believe that I am here. I’ve been in this living room; I’ve been in this kitchen.” I connect to Rose so much. I quote her all the time. So, it was just so much fun.

MF: Simone, can you talk about what Tanya learns about responsibility from working with Rose and taking care of her siblings all summer?
SJJ: I think she just learns that you got to figure it out. I think that’s kind of what I’ve learned in real life of just like, “Okay, nobody knows.” The secret is that nobody knows. So, I think watching her find that out in real time, it’s just so refreshing and it’s awesome to see.
NR: Which is a real confidence that I think only a teenager can have, because you really don’t know. I think obviously as we get older, we know the other side of it and we’re like, “I don’t want to fail.” I do think that there is this kind of blind confidence in Tanya that’s like, “All right, what do I have to lose? I’ve got my whole life ahead of me, so I’m just going to do it.” I really love that.

MF: Finally, Nicole, you are very funny in this movie. Was all the humor in the script or did you find some of it on set? Also, could you relate to Rose as a character?
NR: Thank you. Well, one thing that it was very important for me to remember the whole time is that we are always looking at Rose through a teenager’s eyes. So, the amount of responsibility that she’s talking about as she’s trying to lightly move through everything that’s going on in her head, and she’s talking to Tanya, but she’s also kind of talking to herself and she’s also talking out loud. I think that that’s what teenagers view adults as, nuts. So, I think it was really just important for me to know that that was the perspective and the light that we were looking at her under all the time. What I love so much about Rose is that she’s not going to let anything get in her way. I mean, she really has that forward energy. She knows as the boss and as the head of this company, that it all starts at the top and she wants everyone else to be excited, and she just wants to build her life and keep it moving. I really love that about her.

Nicole Richie speaks to Variety about ‘Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead’ and more

Written by admin on April 10 2024

Nicole Richie recently spoke to Variety about ‘Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead,’ what her children think of ‘The Simple Life,’ and more. You can read the interview on their website here or below:

Nicole Richie has been a “diehard fan” of the 1991 cult comedy “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” for as long as she can remember.

“I’ve been quoting this movie my whole life,” she says.

And now, life has come full circle because the former “Simple Life” reality television icon stars in director Wade Allain-Marcus’ “Don’t Tell Mom” remake as fashion company boss Rose.

The new film stars Simone Joy Jones as Tanya, a 17-year-old whose summer plans are upended when her mom (“Ms. Pat” star Patricia Williams) checks herself into a health retreat. Things completely unravel when the babysitter, played by Oscar nominee June Squibb, hired to take care of Tanya and her siblings suddenly dies.

“When I heard it was going to be a remake, I was like, ‘What does this mean?’” she says. “So I jumped on a Zoom with Wade and he was like, ‘This is a reimagining of the movie.’ He had everything from color palettes, mood boards and a lot of music to give me an idea of what he wanted to do with it. Right after our first Zoom, I was like, ‘I’m ready to play Rose.’”

How nervous were you for a remake? Some remakes work and some are pretty awful.
This is true, but I had the most fun doing it. I think it’s so funny. It’s very feel good, which is something that I don’t think you necessarily get all the time now. When I say feel good, I’m talking early ‘90s. It’s a family adventure comedy.

But one that pushes envelope. There’s a lot of weed in it. A lot more cursing than I expected.
Well, it is rated R. I don’t think anyone was expecting an R rating. It’s been a running joke in our group chat.

You don’t act often.
I read a lot of things, but I just want to make sure that it’s something that I can do a good job in and confidently pour my energy into and feel like I can do it. I think that this movie was a perfect example of that. I never imagined that I would ever play Rose. But now that I think about it, I’m like, “Oh, I’ve always felt spiritually connected to her.” So this was just waiting for me from day one, from 1991.

Do you remember your worst audition?
I don’t know that I’ve necessarily had something where I’m like, that was so horrible. But auditions are so funny. When I auditioned for “Great News,” I auditioned at the end of the day. I walked in, I signed my name, and I was number like 32 for this role. I was like, I’m not gonna get this. I left and got on a flight to go on tour with my husband [Joel Madden]. But when I landed, I found out I got a call back. They told me I need to needed to fly back home and audition again.

Do you have a dream role you’d like to play?
I am in the middle of writing a comedy horror movie right now that I am going to star in. This is a little more Kathleen Turner à la “Serial Mom.”

How often are being pitched a “Simple Life” reunion or reboot?
It has happened a lot, but Paris [Hilton] and I have always felt that we don’t want to do something just to do it. But it is the 20-year anniversary this year, so we have been talking about different ways to celebrate this very cool show that we did. So we’ll see.

Paris’ memoir is being adapted as a TV series.
Should I audition?

That was my next question: who should play you?
Jack Black? [Laughs]

You made big headline news the other night at the “Don’t Tell Mom” premiere because your kids (daughter Harlow Madden, 16, and son Sparrow Madden, 14) made their red carpet debut. Was that a conscious decision, something you all talked about beforehand?
Honestly, they were just going to come with me. It was not really something that we had necessarily talked about. We were there as a family. They’re old enough now. They understand what that is.

How often do they look at old footage of you or watch the “Simple Life”?
“The Simple Life” is apparently having a big moment on TikTok, so they do tell me that they watch clips on TikTok. Their friends watch it. I get a lot of eye rolls in my house all the time. It’s right on brand with how they see me, in general.

Do they want to go into the business?
I’m not sure. I highly doubt that my son does. My daughter might but she’s not banging down my door asking about it. She’s really living that 16-year-old life.
