[Interview] Vanity Fair interviews Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie sat down with Eric Spitznagel of Vanity Fair magazine to be interviewed! They discuss her literary contemporaries, Snooki and Jonathan Franzen. It’s a great, fun interview which I think you’ll enjoy reading! You can read some snippets below:

Eric Spitznagel: If you don’t mind, I’m going to judge Priceless solely by the cover. Am I correct in thinking this is a novel about a woman who’s just taken a shower and is now playing the piano?
Nicole Richie: Yes, that’s exactly what it is. I’m so glad that you made such a great assessment.

Eric Spitznagel: Are you at your most productive post-shower?
Nicole Richie: Absolutely, yes. I tend to operate at my best when I’m in a towel.

Eric Spitznagel: I thought your cat’s name was Tabitha Jones Madden.
Nicole Richie: We have two cats. One is named Gypsy Rose Lee, and the other is Tabitha Jones Madden.

Eric Spitznagel: Your cats have middle and last names? You do realize that you’ve taken it to a new level of crazy, right?
Nicole Richie: I am aware of that, yes. And I’m fine with it.

Eric Spitznagel: Here’s a sentence from your first novel: “Chloe was sitting on her ass in a funky puddle, the perfect metaphor for the pond of loser juice she’d been swimming upstream in ever since drugs had won her over.” I have so many questions about this.
Nicole Richie: That was me last night. I literally do that at least once a year.

Eric Spitznagel: What exactly is “loser juice”?
Nicole Richie: Loser juice could be many things. It’s any sort of liquid that comes out of a loser’s body. Pee, poop, sweat, anything coming out of your hair, anything at all.

Eric Spitznagel: So it’s not a metaphor?
Nicole Richie: No, it’s literal. It’s real juice.
