Teen Vogue interview Nicole Richie on her HOH 1960 summer collection

Written by admin on July 05 2015

Teen Vogue recently interviewed Nicole Richie on her House of Harlow summer collection as well as her summer go-to beauty routine and outfit. Have a read below.

What was your inspiration for the store and summer collection?
I’m hugely inspired by the ’60s and ’70s. I love the freedom of that time and so I think the store represents that and has that vibe. You’ll see a lot of natural wood throughout the store mixed with oxidized mixed metals, which is something I’ve been incorporating into the jewelry and the bags and clutches as well.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere, especially because I travel so much. I’m always visiting the local flea market or stands, and trying to find things that inspire me and that are in line with the House of Harlow vision and aesthetic.

Are there any new pieces you’re particularly excited about?
We’re doing fine jewelry in the store, which I’ve never sold before. I make crystal necklaces with 14 karat gold and diamonds, and I’ve always just made them for my friends, but we’ve never included them with the collections. So having them in the store is really exciting for me. They’re very much House of Harlow, it’s the same design aspects as the other jewelry. The Aztec inspiration and the way that the diamonds are laid. And I love to layer them with other pieces for the collection.

What is your go-to summer outfit?
I always love the bed jackets, I wear them over my bathing suits or over jean shorts and a t-shirt. And vintage silk camisoles, I always bring several on vacation with me. Those are my favorite pieces.

What is your seasonal beauty routine?
I like to keep it really simple in the summer. I just rock clean skin, coconut oil in my hair, and really focus on hydrating. Very natural.

And we’re loving your pink hair! How did you choose this shade for your latest color?
The pink hair was a very last minute decision, I didn’t really know what I was going to do until the day that I did it. It’s just hair color, you can take it out and put it in, it’s all very easy. And I’ve been doing it for so long, it’s just fun.

What is your favorite song of summer?
Crimson and Clover” is always a favorite summer track of mine. I love it.

Lastly, how would you describe the House of Harlow girl?
Somebody who is a free spirit, and isn’t afraid to experiment with fashion and isn’t afraid to challenge their own eye. And really just someone who loves to have fun.

HOH pop-up store includes sessions with Nicole Richie’s make-up artist Neau Nelson and hairstylist Danny Moon

Written by admin on July 02 2015

The Hollywood Reporter took a sneak peek at the House of Harlow pop-up store. They revealed that, even though the store is only open for two weeks, there are by-appointment sessions available with Nicole Richie‘s make-up artist Beau Nelson (July 10th at 5-8 pm) as well as the hairstylist who is responsible for her pastel hair Danny Moon (July 12th at 1-4 pm).

From unfinished wooden shelving to potted desert succulents that sit atop the marble table tops, the atmosphere definitely has the same cool, rock ‘n’ roll feel that has become a Richie signature and helped her secure her place as a true Hollywood style icon. Even the store’s playlist (a taste of which is included below) features ’70s bands that embody the “wild and free” attitude of the era, including The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

The mix of natural textures, from wicker to leather to stone, and more glam pieces, like the wall adorned in gilded, filigree mirrors, unite to “bring all the elements into the store, so you get a real feel of what the brand is,” notes Richie. And the best part? All pieces will be available for purchase.

“Everything in the store is for sale — the rugs, the coffee table, the tables, the chairs, everything,” she says of the furniture, most of which was handpicked by herself and Gordon at antique stores throughout L.A.

Nicole also reveals that a kids collection could be a future possibly.

At the moment Richie has no concrete plans for a permanent store, however a kids collection could be in the works. “My kids have actually been asking me to,” she says of a possible children’s project. “So it’s probably next for me. It’s kind of up in the air for right now.”

PEOPLE: Nicole Richie Is Going to Curate Your Life

Written by admin on July 02 2015

Nicole Sands from PEOPLE Style Watch got to take a look at the House of Harlow pop-up shop at The Grove (which apparently smells amazing)!

Walking into this store makes you think, “Wow, if only my home could look this good.” Luckily, that’s possible because Richie’s objective is to bring all five senses to life, then put it up for sale: everything you see, hear, taste, smell and touch can be bought. From the mirrors to the chairs, shelves and rugs, and from the candles to the Pressed Juicery goodies, all of Richie’s handpicked embellishments will be available for purchase.

Sands also spoke to Nicole Richie about her latest creations.

She’s also selling the brand’s jewelry collection, with the addition of several exclusive malachite pieces will be available in the pop-up shop, as well as a selection of fine jewelry — some of which Richie already personally owns, including the smokey quartz pendant with 14-karat gold and diamonds.

“I’ve been making them for my friends, but I’ve never sold them before,” she says.

Nicole Richie on her personal style defining moments at Refinery29

Written by admin on July 02 2015

Nicole Richie recently spoke to Refinery29 about her style defining moments.

There’s something utterly fascinating about Nicole Richie. Sure, she’s Hollywood royalty, the poster child for L.A.’s signature boho-luxe style, and really gets the whole comedy thing (for proof, please consult Candidly Nicole). But it’s her constant reinvention that we’re committed to keeping tabs on. She’s come a long way since The Simple Life.

Of course, nothing is more interesting than her ever-evolving style, whether in her red carpet choices or in House of Harlow 1960, her line of statement jewelry, oversized sunnies, and silk separates. Luckily, we had the chance to sit down with Richie and get a sneak peek of her latest project: The brand’s first pop-up shop, opening this Friday at The Grove in L.A. and running through July 16. The occasion? A soft relaunch of the line to show how it has grown and matured.

You can expect all the hallmark pieces Richie told us are her favorites — silk camisoles, bed jackets, and her signature Chelsea sunglasses — plus in-store exclusives and brand-new inspirations, like home fragrances and daintier jewelry. After all, just like Richie’s evolving personal style, her steadfast line has undergone a transformation of its own since its launch in 2009.

“As I grow and evolve and change, my eye does, too,” Richie told us on Monday. “I’m hugely inspired by the ‘60s and ‘70s, and the collection tries to emulate that throughout each season, but I love challenging myself with different fabrics, different prints, even incorporating different fabrics in my jewelry.”

Nicole talks about 16 of the looks that have “defined her role as an L.A. fashion mainstay.” Click here to take a look at them and see what she says!
